Platelet Rich Plasma/Fibrin

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) skin rejuvenation and tightening

What is PRP and how does it work ?

Platelet Rich Plasma also known as ‘Facial Stem Cell Regeneration’ or simply ‘Plasma Therapy’. Plasma is the part of our blood that is rich in platelets. Platelets are important for clotting our blood and repairing our body. Platelets also release ‘growth factor’ which stimulates stem cells to repair and produce new healthy tissue. Platelet rich plasma is obtained by separating it from your blood with a centrifuge (a spinning machine). Because your own blood is used there is no danger of disease transmission or allergies.

PRP has become a highly sought-after non-surgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation. PRP therapy is a treatment which uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth, helping to improve your complexion, skin texture and to restore lost facial volume.

PRP can also successfully be used to treat thinning hair and hair loss, particularly male pattern baldness. It is important to start treatment early when you notice hair loss to obtain greater results. Whether you are a suitable candidate will be determined during your consultation.

What is the procedure?

A trained phlebotomist will draw your blood under sterile conditions.  The standard amount of blood drawn for PRP is 50-60 CC’s which will yield 8-10 CC’s of platelet rich plasma for injection.  Your blood is then placed in a centrifuge for around 8-10 minutes and will be spun twice. During this time you will be taken to the Peaceful Esthetic Room where we will apply topical pain cream to promote comfort during the procedure.  Reflexology will be performed to maximize relaxation.  Microneeldling is then done to prep the skin and to encourage collagen cell turn over. Once your cells have separated, the rich platelets are extracted and injected into the skin where rejuvenation is requested. The procedure is also useful for treatment of joint pain, arthritis and tendinitis.

What should you expect post treatment?

Most people will experience some mild to moderate swelling in the area of treatment, redness or heat, which are all common side effects and are part of the activation of your platelets. Because a volume of fluid has to be administered, swelling is inevitable. Bruising can occur and may take several days to disappear.

How soon will I see results?

Most patients will require three treatments at four to six week intervals. The first thing people notice is an improvement in skin turgor and elasticity. Collagen production can take up to three months to occur and the results can differ depending on the individual.  Because the injected product is 100% your own, factors smoking, stress and illness can effect results.  A series of three treatments can yield results for up to two years.

Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections in cosmetics

PRP is a recent technology that uses ingredients from your own blood to regenerate your skin and to rejuvenate collagen, resulting in vibrant, fresh younger looking skin. These ingredients reside within the fraction of your blood named “Platelet Rich Plasma” (PRP). PRP is enriched with platelets, stem cells and growth factors. Once injected into your skin, these substances will accelerate the normal healing process via new collagen formation at the injected area.

(Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are “bioactive” stimulators NOT a filler and it will increase collagen providing a gradual increase in skin thickness. Visible results appear the first treatment session.)Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are effective for treating:

  • The eye area
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improvement in skins tone & texture
  • Full face rejuvenation
  • Décolletage
  • Dull dry skin
  • Crepe skin on neck, legs & arms
  • Back of hands

The treatment is ideal for individuals looking for gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone and color with minimal or no downtime. The results give you a fresher healthier appearance.

Is it safe?
PRP skin treatments are extremely safe as PRP is produced from your own blood, there is no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection. In addition, PRP contains concentrated amount of white blood cells, your natural defenders against infections. As a result, infection is extremely rare with PRP treatment.

How long is the recovery time?
Typically, there is little to no down time associated with the treatment. Some redness of the treated area may last a day after treatment. Minor bruising may occur, but clears up in about a week and can be concealed with cosmetics. Normal activity can be resumed immediately, but your face should be protected from the sun at all times using a SPF of 30 or higher.

What happens during a facial rejuvenation treatment with PRP?
At your first appointment, we will obtain a detailed clinical history and discuss any other medical conditions that may be relevant to this treatment. We will need to check to see if you have recently used any non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID’s). Examples include Naproxen, ibuprofen and meloxicam. These interfere with platelet production by the bone marrow so must be stopped 10 days prior to this procedure. Prior to your PRP treatment, we will draw your blood, similar to a standard blood test, labeled and placed in the centrifuge for separation of components. We then draw up the PRP and begin the injection process.

Today, platelet rich plasma can be easily be separated from blood, through a process of centrifugation. The Practitioner will assess the degree of skin aging, perform a simple skin analysis, and recommend a sensible treatment with a reasonable outcome. After your skin is cleansed and prepared, local anesthetic cream may be applied. For treating the entire face, PRP can also be injected via a syringe and applied topically to the skin with a dermaroller or microneedling. For treating specific areas such as around the eyes and laugh lines, PRP is carefully injected to the targeted area. You can go straight back to work following the treatment, but be prepared for some swelling and bruising. The swelling and bruising can last up to a week in some clients and it is as a result of the activation of the cells caused by the injected platelets.

The Result: Youthful looking skin

For optimal results, we recommend three (3) PRP treatments, each preformed 6 weeks apart. Improvement of skin texture and tone are noticeable within 3 weeks. The results of the treatment will last approximately 12-18 months. To keep the skin and face looking youthful, we also recommend the clients have follow-up injections yearly.

(PRP’s most exciting feature is that it is YOUR body, YOUR blood and YOUR plasma. Nothing artificial, nothing modified and therefore is 100% safe. It is the most natural way of rejuvenating.)
